Brief Description:
CIT Network Engineering will enable a network loop-protection on all switches besides CIT data center (server farm). If a looped device is connected to a CIT switch, the CIT switch port will shut down.
User Impact:
If an incorrectly configured network device is connected and is causing a loop on a switch in the Rhodes node on Ithaca campus and the NYTech campus, the uplink port of the device on the CIT switch will shut itself down until the device is corrected.
Services Affected:
Network
Subsites Affected:
Wired Network
Full Description:
CIT Network Engineering will enable a network loop-protection on all switches besides CIT data center (server farm). If a looped device is connected to a CIT switch, the CIT switch port will shut down. Once the loop is corrected, the port will recover and network functionality will return to normal. Network loops are generally the result of customer-owned switches or hubs and devices incorrectly connected to CIT-managed switches. This feature will prevent looped devices from impacting the rest of the building network.
