Performance Issue: Newly Hired Employees Not Provisioned Office 365 A3 Licenses

Last Updated:

Event:

Status:
Open
Brief Description:
The university is running low on Office 365 A3 licenses, meaning some new employees may not be fully licensed. When this occurs, the account can't get Office 365 Pro Plus or administer Bookings sites. If this happens, contact the IT Service Desk.
User Impact:
Some users may not be able to use Office 365 Pro Plus or administer Bookings sites.
Workaround:
Users should contact the IT Service Desk and CIT will license the user.
Current Status:
Cornell staff have been identifying accounts which are assigned A3 licenses but not using any of the features that license has but A1 does not. Once identified, those accounts are switched from A3 to A1 licenses, which should cause no change in experience for the account holder, and frees up an A3 license to be used for new hires. Cornell IT staff are also readying an effort to apply licenses from a different license pool that are not being used, and which should likewise free more A3 licenses.
Services Affected:
Email and Calendar
Subsites Affected:
Faculty/Staff Calendar (Office 365)
Faculty/Staff Email (Office 365)
Office 365 Productivity Bundle
