Brief Description:
On December 6, 2020, between 8:00 and 9:00am, Google Chat will become available to Cornell G Suite users as the preferred chat client. Google Chat will replace Google Hangouts as Google's preferred mechanism for text conversations.
User Impact:
Google Chat will become available in the Google interface. Popup windows in the web interface will alert users to the new service.

On December 6, 2020, between 8:00 and 9:00am, Google Chat will become available to Cornell G Suite users as the preferred chat client. Google Chat will replace Google Hangouts as Google's preferred mechanism for text conversations. Hangouts will still be available for a period of time, though Google plans to retire Hangouts eventually.
