Services Affected:
Web and Video Conferencing
Full Description:
Starting Friday, August 2, 2019, a new icon will be added to Zoom. The service's closed captioning option, previously hidden by default, will now be available to session hosts. The host can assign another person to create closed captioning during a meeting. This change to the default behavior will make the icon for this option visible by default to hosts. Hosts who prefer not to have the tool icon visible can change their account settings to hide the option.

Details: Zoom includes an option for closed captioning which makes available an additional tool icon in the meeting interface for hosts (only), allowing hosts to assign a person to act as a captionist or to integrate with an external captioning service (note: external captioning services are not included with current service implementation and would need to be arranged independently by the host). Currently this closed caption tool option is available to hosts, but they need to enable an option in their account settings to make it visible in their meetings. This change will switch the default behavior so that the option is visible by default to hosts. Hosts who prefer not to have the tool icon visible can change their account settings to hide it.

Hosts (only) will see the closed caption icon visible by default with the other meeting tool icons.
