Full Description:
Some users reported an error message with Spirion, which scans for confidential data on Cornell computers. The error said “A digitally signed driver is required”. It is safe to ignore this error.

The error was caused by a Spirion client upgrade that affected how Spirion interacts with a Windows system component called the root certificate.

If you have Windows 10 v.1607 or higher, the error will be fixed with a Spirion update. CIT is waiting for an update from the vendor on how soon.

For other versions of Windows:

- If your computer automatically gets updated and patched, you don’t need to do anything. The error will be fixed the next time those updates are done.

- If you manage your own Windows computer, apply all the recommended updates and patches. If the error is still occurring, consult your department’s IT or computer support staff, who can assist with troubleshooting.
