Status:

Brief Description:
Website administrators requesting an SSL certificate through ssl.cit.cornell.edu may receive a message on the webpage that the request failed when it in fact succeeded.
User Impact:
People requesting an SSL certificate may see a message saying the process failed even though it succeeded.
Workaround:
Anyone encountering a “Comodo backend server” error on this page should wait one business day to see if their certificate comes through. If it doesn’t, please contact idmgmt@cornell.edu , including the CSR, and they will investigate.
Current Status:
The issue has been fixed. Although a previous status indicated that the number of email confirmations would be reduced, a way was found to keep the notification process essentially the same for people making requests.
Services Affected:
Not Applicable

Website administrators requesting an SSL certificate through ssl.cit.cornell.edu may receive a message on the webpage that the request failed when it in fact succeeded. The vendor who provides Cornell’s SSL certificates made a change to their API on March 6, 2017, which can result in this error message, even when the process succeeds and a certificate was successfully provisioned. Engineers are working on making a change which will eliminate the error. It will also reduce the number of email confirmations generated by the process from three to two. Once it is ready, the change will be reviewed by the Cornell Change Advisory Board and when approved, communicated to Net-Announce-L. 2017-03-07 16:39:58
