Full Description:
Some members of the Cornell community have contacted support to ask about a red open padlock icon that is showing on email sent from Cornell email systems (and other email systems) to recipients using Gmail. This icon indicates that a technology to encrypt email in transit, Transport Layer Security (TLS), was not in place.\nThese emails are not any less secure than they have been previously. The only difference is that Google is making the status of email encryption more prominent.\nIT@Cornell agrees with the value of TLS and is working to get necessary components in place to fully support it. It is expected that this should be complete around June 2016.\nMore information will be provided as the process nears completion. In the meantime, while we all look forward to the added security TLS will provide, emails from Cornell with the open padlock icon are no less secure than they have been previously.\nIf you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk: http://it.cornell.edu/support
