CIT is investigating delays with distribution of mail to Lyris e-lists.

The delays that were affecting e-lists have been cleared. To address some of the factors that caused these delays, CIT will be changing how bounce messages are handled, and replacing the hardware that was overloaded with more powerful hardware. On Thursday, February 25, we believe the delays occurred due to very heavy usage of e-lists at the same time that the mail gateway was processing an unusually large volume of spam. Some messages appear to have gotten stuck in a queue, which is being cleared. \n\nSeveral root causes appear to have contributed to this issue. CIT is investigating to determine how best to prevent a recurrence. Delays of as much as 1 hour are being observed on email going through @cornell.edu e-lists. These delays appear to have started around 12:30 and are still being observed at 17:00. They are expected to taper off over the next few hours. The delays are being caused in part by congestion from delivery errors from the large number of mass emailings sent out today by the bulkmail service.
