At this point, most of the affected individuals have changed their NetID password as required to gain access to their Exchange account. The focus now is on re-doing the delegation rights they may have had to other people's email and calendar. The affected Exchange accounts have been restored and the mailboxes have been re-attached. The affected individuals will need to reset their NetID password at netid.cornell.edu in order to access their Exchange account (to view email, calendar, or both).\n\nCIT will be contacting all affected individuals and the Exchange technical support providers via an AUDIX voice mail to alert them to this issue. This voice mail should be delivered between 6 am and 7 am on Tuesday, July 14. The affected Exchange accounts have been restored and the mailboxes have been re-attached. CIT has sent an AUDIX voice mail message to all affected individuals who have a campus phone number, and to the Exchange technical support providers. \n\nThis kind of AUDIX message does not cause the message indicator to light, so unless individuals have other AUDIX messages waiting for them, they may not discover this one in a timely manner. These individuals may not realize there is an issue until they try to log in to their Exchange account and their password does not work. \n\nResetting their password at https://netid.cornell.edu will enable them to access their Exchange account again.\n\nPlease note that these individuals did not lose any messages or calendar information, although people who emailed them between 7:15 pm on July 13 and 12:20 am on July 14 may have received delivery error messages. In addition to resetting their NetID password at https://netid.cornell.edu , affected individuals who had shared calendars, mailboxes, and other delegate functions will need to set up calendar and mailbox sharing again. This information was permanently lost when the Exchange accounts were restored. \n\nIf resetting the NetID password does not seem to work, individuals should contact their Exchange technical support provider, or the CIT HelpDesk at 255-8990. At about 7:15 pm tonight 216 Exchange accounts were accidentally deleted. Affected individuals who try to access their Exchange email account will get a password error when they try to log in. CIT will be notifying the affected individuals directly. \n\nStaff in CIT's Identity Management and Messaging groups are currently working to restore the accounts and attach the Exchange mailboxes.\n\nEmail that was already in these individuals' Exchange accounts is still there. Any email sent to those individuals after about 7:15 pm July 13 would have been been returned to the sender with a "could not deliver" error. Exchange will continue to try to deliver the email for some time, however.\n\nOnce the accounts and associated mailboxes are fully restored, the affected individuals will have to change their NetID passwords at netid.cornell.edu. \n\nWe will post updates as new information becomes available.
