Status:

Brief Description:
Resolved: Zoom confirmed that they have enabled reCAPTCHA on their server-side to block spam registrations.
User Impact:
N/A
Workaround:
There is no workaround for this issue
Current Status:
Zoom registrations working as expected
Services Affected:
Web and Video Conferencing
Subsites Affected:
Zoom
Full Description:
Resolved: Zoom confirmed that they have enabled reCAPTCHA on their server-side to block spam registrations.

Previously, Zoom Webinar users who have registration enabled experienced spam registrations flooding their registration list. Zoom is aware of the issue and they expect to fix it in October. Steps can be taken to mitigate the spam registrations.

We are recommending that users switch their registration approval from automatic to manual. For spam registrants that were automatically approved you can cancel their registration. For any spam that is pending approval you can ignore the registration..

Also consider:
  • Restricting the chat feature and only allow attendees to interact through the Q&A feature
  • Only allowing authenticated users to join from the Web client
  • Approving or blocking entry for users from specific countries/regions

For people with thousands of spam registrants, the workaround Zoom suggests is to export the registrant list, remove the spam entries and re-import.
