Full Description:
Members of the Cornell community have reported receiving phone calls whose caller ID indicates they are from a Cornell number (like 607-255-XXXX), and/or from off campus local numbers, but when they pick up, they discover it is a marketing/phishing call from a source unrelated to the university. Individuals receiving calls from a number beginning with 607-255 or 607-254 should not assume the call is from Cornell without confirming, especially if the caller is not someone known, or is demanding information. Initiating a return call to a campus number prior to providing information is a good way to rule out spoofing. Anyone encountering this type of suspicious activity and who feels they may have been tricked into providing personal/sensitive information should contact Cornell University Police and the IT Security Office.
